Hello, I’m Jo, the artist and founder behind Studio McKinney.

I create original artwork, fine art portraits, bespoke illustrations, prints, cards and gifts inspired by British country life and the animals we surround ourselves with.

Studio McKinney is an independent business where every piece begins with me, from the initial idea and drawing through to developing collections, preparing artwork for print and packing orders.

Artwork inspired by the countryside.

My work is rooted in a genuine love of rural life.

Horses, dogs, farms, country houses, British wildlife, muddy boots, old traditions and the wonderfully peculiar habits of country people all find their way into my work.

Some pieces are nostalgic and sentimental. Others are deliberately tongue-in-cheek. What ties them together is a love of the character, humour and heritage of British country life.

I want Studio McKinney to bring a little of that feeling into everyday life, whether that's through an original artwork on your wall, a bespoke illustration of a special memory, or a card sent to someone who appreciates the sentiment and loves our countryside.

Studio McKinney is currently based in the South of England, where I work from my home studio surrounded by the countryside that continues to influence what I create.

My work is predominantly created by hand using traditional drawing and painting techniques, including coloured pencil and pastel. Original artwork is created by me personally, while selected designs are professionally reproduced as prints, cards and other products.

For commissioned work, I work directly with each client to create something personal, whether that's a fine art portrait of a much-loved animal or an illustration capturing the people, animals and places that are special to us.

Where products need to be manufactured or printed, I work with UK-based suppliers and manufacturers wherever possible.

I choose production partners based on the quality of their materials and workmanship, as well as their ability to produce work that meets the standards I want for Studio McKinney.

From fine art papers and professional printing to cards, stationery and other products, I believe that the things you buy should be made well and made to last.

Supporting British makers and manufacturers is also an important part of what Studio McKinney stands for.

I'm interested in creating things that feel personal, considered and worth keeping.

That might mean a portrait of a dog who was part of the family for fifteen years, an illustration of the first home you bought together, a print that makes you laugh every time you walk past it, or a card that says something you couldn't quite put into words yourself.
